Kristin’s current research explores the outcomes of air ambulance patients – specifically patterns in mortality, ED and hospital length of stay, and referral regions. She has been a nurse for over 24 years, focused mainly in acute critical care. Her experience with health care providers, patient pathology and health service processes provide unique insight into the health system. Her research focuses on health service utilisation and allocation by linking large administrative health databases: aeromedical retrieval from multiple providers, emergency department, hospital and death registry. Her pilot study has created data infrastructure for future linkage research. Kristin’s aim is that the results of her research will highlight patterns of illness and injury in rural, remote, and regional communities in Queensland. She hopes this will create a more comprehensive, integrated emergency care system.
