How interactive data visualisations can be optimized to improve human cognition

Project overview

Data visualisations have been researched from a human cognition sense that every person will interpret information in the same way. Most of the research is focused in understanding how humans perceive lines, dots, colours, shapes and how each of these elements are combined to form patterns. Although this research is very useful to understand how incoming sensory signals are perceived, there is still a gap of how these signals are going to create knowledge. Meaning making is more complex than only perceiving patterns, it involves previous knowledge and experiences in an extended cognition, which recognizes culture and technology as part of the cognition process.

Outcomes

As this project is focused in the education context, it is expected to improve learning on higher education students.
