Program Vision
Program Leader: Professor Margot Brereton
Program Co-leader: Dr Catarina Moreira
The Human–centred AI program seeks to design AI from the perspective of human use. AI design has historically been led by a technical push approach exploring techniques to operate over data, with less consideration given to human capabilities, use context, needs, interaction and creativity. This program looks instead from these human perspectives. We examine how human interactions such as questioning, comparison, use etc. can inform AI interface design and how tracking interaction (using eye tracking, histories etc) can improve system interaction and performance. Consideration of fair, transparent and ethical data use is embedded within our approach. Our principal methods are ethnography, co-design research, and system building and evaluation.
