Extend Your Stay: Visiting Researcher Program during International Data Week

As part of the International Data Week 2025 conference, held right here in Brisbane from 13-16 October 2025, the QUT Centre for Data Science warmly invites conference delegates to extend their stay with us through a research visit.

The QUT Centre for Data Science brings together leading researchers in statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to tackle real-world challenges. We collaborate across key sectors including health, the environment, society, and business, while also advancing the fundamental methods that underpin data-driven discovery to solve real-world problems, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and impact.

We welcome researchers from across the globe to spend time at our Centre, located at Queensland University of Technology’s Gardens Point campus, in the heart of Brisbane. Visitors will have access to:

  • A dedicated workstation in our collaborative research space,

  • QUT’s IT and library facilities, and

  • Opportunities to engage with our multidisciplinary research community, including colleagues from affiliated schools and research centres.

A Shared Exchange

In return, we ask visitors to contribute to our Centre’s vibrant academic life. This could include:

  • Delivering a public or technical seminar,

  • Participating in a meet-and-greet with students and early-career researchers, and

  • Holding informal discussions with researchers aligned to your field.

We are flexible and happy to tailor these engagements to suit your expertise and the duration of your visit.

Support for Extended Engagements

The Centre offers limited funding through its Distinguished Visitor Program (up to AU$1,500), which may support a longer or more involved visit. For example, this could involve facilitating a half-day or full-day workshop, leading collaborative discussions, or contributing to Centre initiatives.

This funding is competitive, and typically prioritised for extended engagements that offer broad benefit to our research community.

We encourage all prospective visitors to express interest regardless of eligibility for funding.

Equity and Inclusion

We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment and strongly encourage expressions of interest from researchers of diverse backgrounds, including women, First Nations people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
