Valtteri graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace and Avionics with first class honours in 2018. He completed his PhD on collision risk modelling for unmanned aircraft in support of Unmanned Traffic Management systems, with an industry focus. More specifically, he was interested in quantitative models for estimating collision risk for e.g. drone delivery or urban air mobility, influenced by collision risk models that have been employed and proven in traditional manned aviation for several decades.
As part of his PhD, he worked for a year at Nova Systems in Singapore as part of a consortium into UTM research and development for the Singaporean government. This also included flight trials, resulting in first-hand data on UAS navigation accuracy to inform the collision risk modelling process for small UAS.
