Maria Antico is a research fellow in the Biomechanics and Spine Research Group (BSRG) and in the Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research (QUASR), and a research engineer in the School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics, at the Queensland University of Technology. Her research is focused on advanced tissue recognition techniques, such as deep learning techniques, for the automatic interpretation of medical imaging and on the automation of ultrasound robotic scans for medical diagnostics.
Maria has recently completed her PhD project at the Queensland University of Technology. Her PhD project focused on automatic image analysis to provide surgical guidance to autonomous robots in the framework of minimally invasive surgery. Prior to her PhD candidature, she received her BEng. in Engineering Sciences from the University of Rome Tor Vergata (Italy) in 2014 and MEng. in Biomechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Delft (The Netherlands) in 2016, in collaboration with Philips Research (The Netherlands).
