While completing his Bachelor’s degree at Florida State University, John was employed as an Optical Microscopist in the Director’s Office at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, producing images for major microscope manufacturers and such researchers as Dr. Roger Tsien and Dr. Dimitry Chudakov.

After moving to Australia John was employed as Microscopy Officer at the University of Queensland’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience, working closely with researchers to obtain and analyse data from a suite of advanced optical microscopes.

John’s PhD topic is Light field illumination aka integral illumination. Specifically, he is interested in reducing specular reflection (glare) in imaging applications using light field technology. This has applications in medical and industrial imaging as well as in machine vision.
