Helen graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace Avionics) First Class Honours in 1999, and received a Master of Science (Aerospace Engineering) from the University of Colorado in 2004. She spent 20 years working in Defence on many different military aircraft, flight simulators and ground-based mission systems, both in Australia and the USA. Her expertise lies in complex systems integration, autonomous systems, software assurance for safety critical systems, testing and certification.

Helen followed her love of robotics by joining a Silicon Valley startup building autonomous robo-taxis in early 2019. She is now pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Prof Michael Milford and Prof Jason Ford, working towards developing verifiable localization systems for robots and autonomous vehicles. This research can be applied to many sectors including space, automotive, mining, aviation, agricultural, medical, Defence, underwater and subterranean robotics.
