My research is about precision landing of drones (in a few mm) and recharging or refueling in a completely autonomous context.

The motivation for this is the belief that there are many commercial applications that will open up if a drone can autonomously home and recharge itself without the need for human intervention. For example, applications around security, agriculture, asset management, search and rescue etc.

For instance, at sunrise an agricultural drone might survey the fences for problems and identify the location of the cattle and create a report before the farmer has finished his morning coffee. The precursor to these applications is autonomy in landing and recharging.
