2020 John Kindler Memorial Award & IEEE Best Thesis Winners

Congratulations to Somayeh Hussaini and Kasun Kalhara who were awarded the prestigious John Kindler Memorial medal for the most outstanding Engineering graduate.  Both will join the QUT Centre for Robotics as PhD researchers in 2021.

The John Kindler medal resembles the carrying on of the Kindler legacy of engineering leadership left by Engineer and QUT founder, John Ernest Kindler (1906-1968) in recognition of his advocacy for advancing the engineering profession.

John Kindler medal is awarded based on distinguished record of achievement, leadership and student and community engagement throughout the academic studies.

Somayeh also received the 2021 IEEE Student Prize for the best final year thesis in all fields of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology: “Somayeh Hussaini (Thesis title: Deep Learning Temporal Features in the Context of the Vision-Based Aircraft Detection)”
