Russell has a B.Sc degree in Environmental Science from Queensland University of Technology. His current Masters thesis focuses on the evaluation of infrared thermography for fauna surveys. The goal is to identify optimal environmental conditions for detection accuracy and quantify the advantages that infrared thermography has compared to traditional survey methods, such as visual detection, scat and track surveys.
