Dr Nicole Lawrence obtained her BSc with majors in Biochemistry and Zoology (1991) from James Cook University of North Queensland, in Townsville Australia, before completing an Honours degree in Zoology (1992) and PhD in Tropical Health (1997) from The University of Queensland / QIMR Berghofer Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia. She has undertaken postdoctoral research positions at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Canada, and the School of Integrative Biology, Protagonist Therapeutics and the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at The University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia. Dr Lawrence also obtained a Graduate Diploma in Education (2010) and taught higher level Chemistry and Biology at the Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology, Brisbane Australia. Dr Lawrence is currently a senior postdoctoral research officer within the laboratory of Prof David Craik at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, where her research focuses on using host defence molecules as the basis for designing drugs to combat disease, including cancer, microbial infections such as meliodosis, and parasitic infections such as malaria. Dr Lawrence is especially interested in investigating molecular interactions at the cell surface and inside infected cells to describe the mode-of-action of drug candidates, thereby working towards improving their activity.
