Peter joined QUT in 2019 as lead programmer of the PIXLISE project. The aim of the project is to write a custom software tool that allows scientists to analyse data coming back from an instrument called PIXL on the Perseverance rover which is hurtling towards Mars for a February 2020 landing.
Previously Peter has programmed in many languages and platforms working on both real-time and non-real time visualisation software for stock markets, customisable products, and 3D environments. He has also worked on mobile phone apps, web apps, and embedded devices on his own or in large teams.
The initial inspiration to learn to program came to Peter when he was in high school and 3D games started coming out with increasing levels of interaction and realism. When Quake 2 was released in 1997, he picked up a book on the C++ programming language and hasn’t stopped since. Peter studied Computer Science at Monash University in 2004 and finds it amazing how software has become such a relentlessly evolving target, and requires constant learning and moving with the times.
Peter is a keen cyclist, snowboarder and recently took up windsurfing. He has many unfinished side projects related to renewable energy, drones and electric vehicles.
