Searching for Life on Mars with PIXL

The Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry is an elemental geochemistry spectrometer attached the robotic arm on the Perseverance Rover. It is led by QUT alumna Dr Abigail Allwood. Data returned from Mars by this instrument is available to the research group led by Dr David Flannery, an PIXL instrument Co-Investigator now based at QUT. The instrument was delivered in 2020 and is now aboard Perseverance on the way to Mars.

QUT staff and students are currently studying analogues for geological features the team expects to find in Jezero Crater and analyse with PIXL.
