Federal Minister for Education Dan Tehan today announced $84 million in funding for university research projects under the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme through the Australian Research Council (ARC).

Dr David Flannery, from QUT’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Science, was awarded $367,000 to study ancient rocks on Earth and Mars.

“The record of life and early environments in Australia’s early geological record is the key to interpreting rocks on Mars”, Dr Flannery said.

Applications are now open for PhD students to work with Dr Flannery in the field of astrobiology.
