Phase 2: Interviews with parents regarding their engagement with private tuition.
We are in the final stages of Phase 2. We have conducted interviews with parents/guardians of year 5 children, with the aim of understanding what bears on their decision to, or not to, engage a private tutor. Interviews were conducted with parents/guardians of diverse cultural and language groups, diverse socio-economic circumstances and across a range of geographical locations.
The research questions guiding Phase 2 is:
How are parents engaging with the shadow literacy education market in Australia?
Preliminary findings from interview data were presented at the Bourdieu Study Group 2nd Biennial International Conference (Lancaster University, England) and the XIX ISA World Congress of Sociology (Toronto, Canada). Further details of the presentations can be found here.
