Our research focuses on ocean governance in a changing environmental, geopolitical and security context. The sustainable and peaceful governance of the world’s ocean environments against a backdrop of rapid ecological and geopolitical change is a grand challenge.
Robust legal, policy and governance reforms at global, regional, national and sub-national levels are needed for a transformative change in the way we treat and manage our marine and coastal environments.
The main themes of our research are:
- marine environment;
- maritime security;
- climate change impact on oceans; and
- climate change related displacement and smuggling and trafficking of persons by sea.
