Superconductor research at Banyo Pilot Plant

A prototype high-temperature superconductor is being tested at the IFE’s Banyo Pilot Plant, as part of a landmark research agreement between QUT, German engineering giant Siemens and the Australian Government’s Defence Science and Technology Group. The technology enables dense currents to be carried with virtually no energy loss and could reduce the size and weight of conventional motors by more than 30 per cent. Professor Richard Taylor is leading the testing of superconducting technologies at Banyo.
