This project will provide best practice, evidence-based recommendations as to whether any changes are required to Ireland’s learning to drive process. The research tasks include:
- A literature review on the effectiveness of the learning to drive process (e.g., Graduated Driver Licensing, theory test, supervised driving, mandatory driving lessons, hazard perception tests etc.).
- Detailed case studies of five countries in relation to their approaches to the learning to drive process.
- Administering a survey to CIECA members (CIECA are the International Commission for Driver Testing, with members in 39 countries worldwide) on the learning to drive processes in place in their respective countries.
- Detailed recommendations (in light of 1-3 above) that highlight any ‘gaps’ in Ireland’s learning to drive process, and/or areas for improvement.
