Enhancing Road Safety: Developing and Testing VRU Activated Monitoring and Alert System

The project aims to create a state-of-the-art Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Detection and Warning System to bolster road safety significantly. This innovative initiative seeks to implement a comprehensive and responsive system that detects VRUs on or near roadways, providing timely warnings to motorists. Central to this endeavour is developing a sophisticated sensor system that leverages cutting-edge technology, including high-resolution cameras and thermal imaging for all-day, all-weather monitoring. An integral part of the system will be its communication interface, which includes dynamic variable message signs (VMS) to convey warnings to drivers. The project will also explore the impact of these warnings on driver behaviour.
