Summary
Dr. Jilong Qin is a postdoctoral research fellow at the bacterial pathogenesis laboratory at the QUT Centre for Immunology and Infection Control (CIIC) and a member of the Max Plank Queensland Centre (MPQC). Dr. Qin received his PhD degree at the University of Adelaide as a trained bacteriologist and geneticist. He has over 10 years of laboratory experience working with surface virulence factors of bacterial pathogens, with a focus on studying their biogenesis as well as their role in pathogenesis, host cell adhesion, biofilm formation and antimicrobial resistance. He has published 18 research articles (with 6 being first-author and 4 being corresponding-author) in field-leading journals including PLoS Genetics, PNAS, EcoSal Plus, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Microbiology Spectrum, Scientific Reports, mSphere. Dr. Qin has been invited to peer-review articles for Nature Communications, Microbiology and PMC microbiology, and grant application for a world-leading research institute.
Dr. Qin received an ECR ideas grant from the QUT faculty of health to study bacterial adaptation to host and environment (AUD 20,000, 2023-2024). His emerging research profile is recognised in his research field with an Early Career Development award at the Lorne Infection of Immunity 2024. His recent research focuses on next-generation antibiofilm agents and the role of bacterial surface polysaccharides in biofilm formation.
