Andy has been a long-term conservationist and advocate for the arts, especially public art. For over 30 years Andy has worked as a public servant in area of community engagement, science and natural resource management. For the last few years, he has been undertaking a PhD (part-time) with QUT that is developing a best practice model of stakeholder engagement for art-science projects aiming to motivate action on climate change.
Andy has worked in the art-science nexus for over a decade with a particular interest in consilience – the new understanding that can emerge from the collaboration between different disciplines. Andy introduced the first Queensland Government Artist in Residence Science (AIRS) Program and managed four AIRS programs (2015-2019) has curated eight Art meets Science Exhibitions (2012-2018) at the Ecosciences Precinct, Dutton Park. These exhibitions provided an opportunity for artists from across Southeast Queensland to showcase their recent artworks that demonstrate a strong art-science connection. In 2022 Andy became a founding member of Consilience Queensland (Inc) and is on the council of the Royal Society of Queensland.
Passionate about the environment and community arts, Andy is a founding and continuing member (and former/current President) of: the Logan and Albert Conservation Association; the Beaudesert and Community Arts Project that established the Lake Wyaralong Sculpture Park; and A-Choired Taste – the Scenic Rim Community Choir.
