Join the transdisciplinary collective of Creative Industries Faculty academics and partners as they lead a proactive, creative response to the unfolding planetary ecocide. The Sustainability and More-than-Human Maker Symposium showcases ways that our Interaction Design and Visual Communication disciplines are responding to sustainability challenges – especially with reference to design and its impact on the world conceived as the a whole: human and more than human.

8.30am Symposium Opens
09.00 – 09.45 Keynote – Prof Marcus Foth Professor of Urban Informatics in the QUT Design Lab, Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology. He is also an Honorary Professor in the School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University, Denmark.
09.45 – 10.15 Alinta Krauth
Multidisciplinary new-media artist, interaction designer, and co-founder of EphemerLab. She is a researcher of interactive art for more-than-human situations and spaces, including the use of mobile interactive devices, interactive projection, and sensor-based art as a response to more-than-human agency, and caring for non-humans.
10.15 – 10.45 Dr Anastasia Tyurina
Senior lecturer in Visual Communication, member of the Design Lab. Anastasia operates within the domains of emerging technologies, visual communication, interaction design, scientific imaging, photography, and creative coding.
10.45 – 11.15 Louis Quijano
Researcher of bacterial cellulose and the analysis and development of its applications in the textile and apparel industry.
11.15 – 11.30 Break
11.30 – 12.00 Speaker panel
Artists and researchers address the dilemmas of sustainability and more-than-human makers.
12.00 – 13.00 Dr Chadden Hunter Keynote (streamed)
Queensland filmmaker and biologist, Dr. Chadden Hunter has spent the last 20 years working alongside Sir David Attenborough directing the world’s most famous nature films. Join him for a fascinating multimedia journey through the secrets of wildlife filmmaking
