Dr Amal Senevirathne

    Postdoctoral fellow

Amal Senevirathne is a seasoned mechanical engineer and researcher with a diverse background in academia and industry. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering before pursuing a Master of Engineering in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Nanotechnology at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. In 2008, Amal began his career as an academic at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, where he served as a lecturer until 2022. Throughout this tenure, he actively bridged academia with industry, offering his expertise in design and manufacturing on a part-time basis. Renowned for his exceptional proficiency in product design and analysis, Amal made significant contributions to both academia and industry. He has supervised many undergraduate honours students, facilitated the academic growth of several master’s students, and is currently overseeing the development of Ph.D. candidates. His research focus shifted in 2019 towards nanotechnology, particularly in the development of antibacterial nanostructured surfaces. This transition marked a new chapter in his career, leading to innovative discoveries and numerous publications in esteemed scientific journals. For the past five years, his research has been at the forefront of multiple disciplines, including nanofabrication, microbiology, computational fluid dynamics, and microfluidic devices. Currently, Dr Senevirathne holds the position of Research Fellow at QUT, Australia, where he continues to research in nanotechnology and its applications in combating bacterial infections.
