Overview
The program provides participants with the basic physical principles, radiation safety principles, skeletal anatomical knowledge and radiographic techniques used in imaging the chest and extremities. It also provides basic practical instruction and understanding of positioning and technical skills. The program can be completed for the range of Queensland – Radiation Health Unit to apply for a rural or remote area radiography Use Licence, depending on your location requirements.
There are three types of course offered:
- Basic X-ray
- Extended rural and remote area
- Medical practitioner rural and remote area
On successful completion of the course, participants meet the eligibility criteria set by Queensland – Radiation Health Unit to apply for a rural or remote area radiography Use Licence (Trainee). - Three-day intensive short course + 1 day assessment
- Course developed and delivered by professional diagnostic radiographers and experts in medical imaging
- Ideal for registered medical practitioners, registered nurses, enrolled nurses and allied health practitioners working in rural and remote areas of Queensland
- The course assumes participants have current knowledge in the areas of bony anatomy and medical terminology
- Successful participants cannot perform imaging examinations until their trainee licence is received, and a local supervising radiographer (approved by Queensland – Radiation Health Unit) has been determined.
Course structure
- Delivered at QUT Gardens Point Campus, Brisbane City
- Recognition of participation
- Successful participants receive a “Statement of Attainment of knowledge and skills” to support their application for a trainee licence.

- basic radiation physics and radiographic equipment
- radiographic technique
- image processing (incl. use of computed radiography systems)
- radiation protection
- licensing regulations

$1750.00 (excluding GST) for the full three-day course
