Developing Secondary Mathematics Preservice Teachers’ Competencies through Lesson Study: A Design-Based Research
The research aims to utilise Lesson Study, a professional school-based development model from Japan, as an alternative approach to a Philippine secondary mathematics teacher education’s practicum (or Experiential Learning) course. Research on Lesson Study integration to preservice teacher education indicates LS’s potential in developing teacher competencies: knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Since learners’ mathematics competence and outcomes are associated with teacher quality, maximising the practicum course using LS will be a beneficial endeavour in elevating quality of mathematics education in the locality.
