Tri-Institution (QUT-SINU-UQ) Researcher Showcase and Networking Event

Venue: The University of Queensland
Twenty-two researchers from the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), University of Queensland (UQ), and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a DFTAT representative gathered to strengthen research partnerships and explore future collaborations. The event was co-hosted by A/Prof Nicole George (UQ), A/Prof Danielle Watson (QUT) and A/Prof Vinesh Chandra (QUT).
Key Highlights
- Enduring partnerships: The UQ–SINU relationship continues to grow, with QUT now complementing this work through projects in security capacity building and Pacific development.
- Shared research priorities: Climate resilience, gender equity, education, and locally grounded approaches to peace and security.
- Equitable collaboration: SINU’s new research frameworks emphasise co-designed partnerships and capacity building, ensuring Pacific researchers lead from project inception.
- Emerging opportunities:
- New postgraduate programs and curriculum development in security and humanities.
- Documentary and creative projects, such as Good Neighbours by A/Prof. Tiziana Ferrero-Regis on second-hand clothing flows to Solomon Islands.
- Regional research networks across the Pacific in education, environment and governance.
- Contribute to the upcoming Briefing Paper Series (2,000 words) on Pacific security, gender equality, climate change, and education.
- Explore joint funding and research proposals under existing MOUs.
The event underscored a shared commitment to collaborative, inclusive, and Pacific-led research. Many thanks to all who attended and contributed to these valuable discussions.
