Dr Rebecca Spooner-Lane is a Senior Lecturer in Education. As a teacher educator and registered psychologist, Rebecca has a keen research interest in the professional development and career progression of teachers from graduate teacher through to lead teacher. Her research has led her to explore the impact of a Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) on graduate teachers' classroom readiness. Rebecca lead the development, teaching and assessment of final year pre-service teachers' Quality Teaching Performance Assessment (QTPA) and has overseen the implementation of the QTPA at three partnering universities at Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and the University of Sunshine Coast.  In 2020, she was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award and Executive Dean's Excellence Award for her leadership of the QTPA.

Rebecca has a keen interest in induction and mentoring, school leadership, and teacher’s mental health and well-being. Some of her career highlights include

  • collaborating with Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) to support their Highly Accomplish and Lead Teachers and researching how teachers represent their impact on student learning.
  • understanding school improvement processes and its impact on school leadership in Queensland on an Education Horizon Grant project.
  • delivering podcasts facilitated by Madonna King on teacher stress and well-being
  • working with the Department of Education to support experienced teachers throughout Queensland through the Mentoring Beginning Teachers project

Rebecca has supervised doctoral and master’s students in the areas of teacher self-efficacy, inclusive education, mindfulness, teacher identity, intercultural competence, and values education.
