Apply now for a Casual Research Assistant – Climate and Atmospheric Data Analysis

Location

School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences – Gardens Point Campus Duration: ~2 month (July-August 2025) Employment type: Casual Estimated hours: Negotiable (~1 day/week) Salary: As per QUT casual research assistant pay scale.

Position Summary

Are you a science student with an interest in climate, data science, polar regions, or the atmosphere? Would you like to contribute to cutting-edge research on how biogenic aerosols affect cloud formation over the Southern Ocean and Antarctica?

We are seeking a casual research assistant to support a cutting-edge climate science project focused on improving the accuracy of global atmospheric models in the Southern Ocean and Antarctic regions. You will assist with wrangling observational data of methanesulfonic acid (MSA), a critical biogenic aerosol influencing cloud formation and Earth’s energy balance. You’ll work with real-world datasets from field campaigns and Antarctic stations and help prepare them for use in machine learning models that will improve GEOS-Chem, one of the world’s most widely used atmospheric chemistry models.

This position is ideal for a student or early-career researcher with a background in environmental science, atmospheric science, climate science, data science, chemistry, or data analysis.
