A group of 239 scientists from around the world, co-led by Professor Lidia Morawska, Director of the ILAQH, has changed the global approach to infection control. They appealed to the medical community and to national and international bodies (including the World Health Organisation) to recognize the potential for airborne spread of COVID-19, by a Commentary published in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal titled, It is Time to Address Airborne Transmission of COVID-19.
It was a huge effort to get to this point but very much worth it, as in a Press Conference on the 7 July, the WHO acknowledged this as a mode of infection transmission based on our appeal. The significance of this is discussed in a Nature News article.
In a Washington Post article, the Commentary is considered among the key elements in fighting against the virus – please see reason 4.
This is a significant global achievement, making QUT known around the world
