Congratulations to the “CF Air” Team, who has been awarded the 2018 Eureka Prize for Infectious Diseases Research!
‘The CF Air team has uncovered the process by which the deadly pathogens causing airway infections are transmitted between cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. Their research has attracted considerable attention from the CF community, impacting clinical practice and policy and ultimately reducing infection rates amongst CF patient groups.
CF AIR includes collaborators from Metro North Hospital and Health Service; Prince Charles Hospital; QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute; Children’s Health Queensland; University of Queensland; Griffith University; Gold Coast Health; and QUT. We have been working together for over fifteen years, and among our prior achievements was a paper on this topic published in Science in 2016 (together with collaborators from UK and US). We are obviously thrilled with the Eureka Prize and motivated to look for still bigger challenges!
