The REF team are integral members of the UAV Challenge Steering and Technical Committees, providing guidance and expertise to this international robotics competition (co-organised by QUT and CSIRO’s Data61). REF provides technical scrutineering, airspace management, ground based observation as well as marketing/communications/media services to this annual event.
The team are also heavily involved in QUT’s Robotronica, a groundbreaking one-day event showcasing the latest developments in robotics and interactive design. Held every two years, the event attracts a broad audience from families through to young people, curious about the latest technology. Robotronica returned to QUT’s Gardens Point Precinct on 18 August 2019 to reveal the most up to date advancements and innovations in the fields of robotics and interactive design. The REF team conducted live displays of QUT’s aerial robotics capabilities to more than 1500 unique visitors across the day, as well as supporting two other projects on autonomous ground vehicles.
In addition to these core Outreach activities, REF also supports a multitude of STEM focused engagement activities, ranging from Power of Engineering, Australian Youth Aerospace Forum, the Vice-Chancellor’s STEM Camp, through to providing talks and presentations to community, government, industry and academic organisations.
