Interestingly, as we grouped residents photographs for the exhibition, we found both retirement village and residential aged care residents valued the same aspects – but these were defined and enacted differently.
For example, retirement village residents valued the social interactions, activities, friendships and feeling of community, while nursing home residents generally emphasised the sense of safety from having “somebody caring for me, for a change”.
The exhibition grouped resident’s photographs and narratives across four core themes, outlined below – to find out more (and see some of the photographs within each theme) click on each theme below. As well as photographs, the exhibition includes narratives and poems capturing residents experiences.
