Charlene (Charlie) Bron

    PhD Candidate

2016     Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology), Queensland University of Technology

2017     Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours), Queensland University of Technology

After graduating from QUT with a first-class honours in Biomedical Sciences, Charlie started working with the GRC on a voluntary basis in an effort to expand on her existing skill set of cell and molecular biology. After working within the GRC Charlie successfully enrolled as a PhD candidate and was confirmed in March 2020. In addition to her PhD project she is a member of our diagnostics team in which she is tasked with the administrative processes and sample processing. Charlie has also worked as a sessional academic for 1st year Biomedical Science Cell and Molecular Biology classes.

Charlies project involves the use of Epigenetic, Whole Exome and Mitochondrial Sequencing to identify novel genetic variants which cause Migraine. In addition to this she is developing CRISPR models in neuronal cell lines to further test these variants.
