The Setting

Four Preparatory Classrooms in two schools in the Brisbane Metropolitan area. The school contexts were chosen as they were rich in cultural and linguistically diverse.

One school is a school is an inner-city school with rich cultural diversity welcoming children from Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia and Italy, while the second school is on the outer fringes of the city and celebrates children from Australian, Chinese, Korean, Indian, and Arabic cultural backgrounds.
