Last month, we hosted two workshops demystifying GenAI at both, the DMRC & ADM+S summer school. Here’s a little recap of the workshops.
The Live Action Roleplay (LARP) Workshop led by Aaron Snowswell: Students were given the opportunity to step-into the transformer architecture. Inspired by the design of board games, our participants were able to look under the hood of computational processes by acting out components inside a transformer architecture – the mechanics behind leading chat-bot platforms today such as ChatGPT. This method brought the intricacies of AI to life.
The hands-on Introduction to Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) led by William He then built on this, showing participants how to build their own RAGs, vectorise databases, and explore what augmenting Large Language Models (LLMs) with their own data allowed them to achieve. This hands-on experience sparked some great discussions and insights into existing RAG products and their strengths and limitations.
Together, these workshops play a crucial role in demystifying GenAI. By peeling back the layers of technology often hidden behind shiny interfaces like ChatGPT, we aim to foster a more grounded debate about the future of GenAI. Soon, we will put these resources up on our website.
