Dr Mahat

A very big congratulations to Kiran Mahat, who can now officially call himself Doctor after receiving the award confirmation letter from the university a few days ago!  Kiran’s PhD was on the abundance, distribution and biology of two fruit fly natural enemies, the parasitoid wasps Fopius arisanus and Diachasmimorpha kraussii.  He identified that F. arisanus as the most common fruit fly parasite in southeast Queensland, and then studied the mechanisms which make it more successful than D. krausii. While making advances in fundamental insect behaviour, he also produced recommendations for better utilisation of parasitoids for fruit fly control.
