Computer-Human Interaction

Selen is an Associate Professor in the field of Human-Computer Interaction in the School of Computer Science at QUT. Her research on esports explores the impact of game design on player experiences, with a specific interest in how competitive gaming environments affect social interactions and player motivations. Her work critically examines community dynamics within esports and the design of interventions to mitigate toxic behaviors in gaming communities. Currently, she is conducting a longitudinal study focusing on women’s experiences in collegiate esports teams, investigating the unique challenges and dynamics female players face in these competitive settings.

Dr. Türkay earned her PhD in Instructional Technology and Media at Columbia University Teachers College, New York, and has previously held positions as a Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University before joining QUT.
