Optimising Future Grid
Cross-disciplinary research.
Challange being investigated:
- Rapid transition to renewable energy and increased Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are creating new complexities for power grids.
- Issue: Rooftop solar without energy storage leads to negative minimum demand during the day, and peak demand in the evening.
- Traditional centralised grid management systems are struggling with the scalability and responsiveness required to manage DERs.
Approach:
Design and Development of Decentralised Grid Architecture
- Build a secure, scalable framework for real-time data exchange between DERs.
- Integrate distributed optimisation algorithms for grid management.
Large-Scale Optimisation
- Develop and implement non-convex optimisation techniques.
- Conduct mathematical modelling and simulations to manage demand fluctuations and grid efficiency.
