Veronica Gray commenced university in 2004 at the University of Newcastle, Australia.  She graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science (Physics) and a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) Honours. For her Honours project she studied the nano-laminate MAX phase ceramic Ti3AlC2, analysing its structure during synthesis using neutron powder diffraction. After graduating Veronica joined the Defence Science and Technology Organisation as part of the Future Operations Division, Joint Operations Division.  She worked as a Joint Systems Scientist with a major focus on future warfare in the EM spectrum.  She also conducted research into future Asymmetrical Warfare. Returning to her PhD mid-2010, Veronica undertook study into the single crystal properties of MAX phase ceramics using inelastic neutron scattering.  This saw Veronica use the neutron facilities at Los Alamos, LANL, USA and Lucas Heights, ANSTO, Australia. During her PhD Veronica also won an ARC Researchers in Business grant to work with Pivot Maritime International.  She conducted research into simulating rogue wave and shallow water effects on commercial maritime vessels and infrastructure. After completing her PhD in 2013, Veronica moved to Swansea University as a postdoc researcher within the Rolls Royce UTC.  There she spent 4yrs investigating a range of aerospace and power generation materials.  She focused on creep and fatigue with a focus on dynamic testing (TMF, dwell fatigue and transient creep) as well as ultra-high temperature testing. Veronica has now returned to Australia in 2018 an taken up a position with QUT as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. Speciality Subjects:

  • Analysis and Simulation Techniques: SEM, TEM, AFM, DFT, DFT-MD, APT, Systems Analysis, Systems Architecture
