PhD in Economics (Information Systems Institute) (Leibniz Universitat Hannover)
Kenan Degirmenci is a Lecturer in Information Systems with expertise in technology adoption, specializing in how psychological and economic factors influence decision-making processes in energy markets. As the Head of the Research Group Behavioural Energy Analytics & Modelling (BEAM), he leads research that bridges the gap between system-level energy dynamics and human behaviour, creating practical solutions to sustainability challenges. By integrating insights from behavioural economics with information systems, he advances the development of human-centred technologies and service innovations, such as electric vehicles and smart home energy solutions, to foster energy policy innovation and sustainable consumer behaviours.
He holds a PhD in Economics (Information Systems Institute) from Leibniz University Hannover and published in high-quality journals such as Information & Management, International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Computer Information Systems, AI & Society, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, Sustainable Cities and Society, Landscape and Urban Planning, Urban Climate, and Journal of Urban Technology. His research has been widely cited and influenced research, practice, and policy such as the UK Government Office for Science, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Yahoo Finance, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
He is a co-editor of the book Electric Vehicles in Shared Fleets, where he led the section on decision support systems. He has extensive experience in editorial roles as associate editor at leading conferences in the information systems field, including the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), and the International Conference on Business Informatics. He is currently the Secretary of the Special Interest Group in Green Information Systems (SIG Green) of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the leading association in the information systems field.
He received several awards such as the Best Conference Paper Award at Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), the Colleague of the Year Award at QUT’s School of Information Systems, and the QUT Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence as part of the Information Systems Learning & Teaching Portfolio. He is the Deputy Academic Lead in Learning & Teaching and the Subject Area Coordinator of the Bachelor of Information Technology. He is passionate about supporting students to achieve their full potential, and as an accredited supervisor, he actively recruits Honours, MPhil, and PhD research students.
