Frequently Asked Questions
Who Can Participate?
We are inviting families with a child aged 4–7 years and an older relative (aged 65+) who live in a different city, state, or country from each other. If this sounds like your family, we’d love to hear from you!
What Does Participation Involve?
Participation may include:
- Online or in-person interviews
- Co-design workshops
- Testing playful prototypes at home
Each phase will be clearly explained, and you can choose which activities you’d like to be involved in—there’s no pressure to do them all.
How Much Time Will It Take?
That depends on which parts you join.
For example:
- Interviews take about 60 minutes
- Home-based prototype testing may run over three months, with occasional short check-ins
We’ll always tell you in advance what to expect, so you can decide what works best for your schedule.
Where Will Activities Take Place?
We offer flexible options:
- Online sessions
- In-person activities at QUT Kelvin Grove campus
- At-home activities, such as playful tasks or prototype testing
You can choose whichever suits you best.
Do I Need to Be Good with Technology?
Not at all!
We welcome families with all levels of tech experience. Our team will provide clear instructions and offer support every step of the way.
Will I Be Paid for Participating?
Yes!
To thank you for your time, you’ll receive a small gift or voucher, such as a Visa gift card, after completing certain activities.
Is Participation Voluntary?
Yes—participation is entirely voluntary.
You can stop at any time without needing to give a reason, and there will be no negative consequences if you choose not to continue.
How Will My Information Be Used?
Your privacy is very important to us.
All information you provide will be:
- Kept confidential
- Used only for research purposes
Any findings we share publicly will never include your name or anything that identifies you.
Can I Join If I Don’t Live Near QUT?
Yes!
We welcome families from any location. Many of our activities can be done remotely or from your home, so you don’t need to live near Brisbane or QUT to participate.
How Can I Register or Ask Questions?
We are currently inviting participants to take part in Phase 1 of our study. The phase involves a one-hour online interview, scheduled at a time that works for you. If your family includes a child aged 4-7 and an older relative (aged 65+) who lives in a different city, state, or country from the child, we would like to hear from you. Whether you are the parent or the older relative, you are welcome to participate.
To get involved in Phase 1, you can either:
- Fill out our registration form
- Or email us at hayley.wang@qut.edu.au
We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have!
