Ambient Nature Network: Designing technologies to connect people to and through nature

Ambient Nature Network

This project is researching the design of an Ambient Nature Network to present and share data about local nature in calm, engaging ways in homes. We aim to help people to notice nature, lead them to spend time outdoors, and create new ways to participate in local citizen science and conservation action.

In particular, we are looking at ways to:

  • Reveal hidden nature by creating new interfaces to browse environmental data from modern cheap sensors and new ambient connected devices (IoT); creating fun and intriguing experiences in the social spaces of the home.
  • Connect through nature by investigating how home sensors and ambient interfaces can support sharing inside and outside the home.
