Nyasha Mutongwizo

Dr Nyasha Mutongwizo is a Postdoctoral research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Her postdoctoral research focuses on human security and development in the Pacific, exploring how Pacific Islanders perceive, rank/prioritise and experience traditional and non-traditional threats in their everyday lives.

Nyasha’s PhD research explored unconventional socio-political engagement by marginalised youth in an authoritarian context, with Zimbabwe as a case study. Prior to her PhD, Nyasha graduated with a Master of Social Science (Social Development) degree from the University of Cape Town. Her +10 years’ working experience is rich and varied, including working in the academic sector undertaking research and teaching; adolescent health promotion; philanthropy/grant-making; bilateral development assistance; humanitarian assistance; and gender and women’s empowerment.

At the core of her work, her motivation is advancing the position and capabilities of marginalised and vulnerable groups such as children, youth and women.
