The project aims to develop a telecommunications and digital connectivity strategy for the Torres Strait, Gulf and Cape York regions in Far North Queensland. Funded by the Torres Cape Indigenous Council Alliance (TCICA) and led by James Cook University (JCU), researchers will map the existing telecommunications infrastructure, and identify options for deploying of a range of technologies and delivery options to support social and economic development in the region. Dr Amber Marshall from the QUT DMRC was invited to work with colleagues at JCU to undertake online focus groups with community stakeholders, carry out desk-top based research on digital inclusion challenges in the region, and help make recommendations for digital access and capacity building in Indigenous communities.
