Minecraft is one of the world’s most popular digital games and its use in education has increased in recent years. Minecraft Education Edition (M:EE) is a modified version of Minecraft for use in schools, and is currently available in several Australian states including Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
As M:EE is taken up in Australian schools, the M:EE team based at Microsoft in the United States partnered with the DMRC to undertake research to better understand how Minecraft is used by teachers and students and how they might be better supported to implement the game for learning. The M:EE team was particularly interested to know how non-‘early adopter’ teachers might be supported to use the game in the classroom.
