Elija Cassidy is a senior lecturer in Digital Media and chief investigator in the Digital Media Research Centre at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. His research focuses on issues of digital inclusion and equality as they play out through cultures and practices of everyday digital technology use, non-use and resistant appropriation, with particular emphasis on gender, sexuality and minority populations. He is the author of Gay Men, Identity and Social Media: A Culture of Participatory Reluctance (Routledge) and has published in journals such as New Media and Society, Social Media and Society, Information, Communication and Society and Convergence. Elija also teaches in several courses on digital media and research methodology and is an experienced educational leader who has held a number of management positions within the QUT School of Communication and served on a wide range of faculty and institutional committees.
