Congratulations to QUT DMRC’s Professor Kevin Sanson on receiving the 2025 Prize for Outstanding Book in Media Industry Studies from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, co-sponsored by the Center for Entertainment & Media Industries at the University of Texas at Austin.
Professor Sanson’s book, Mobile Hollywood: Labor and the Geography of Production, was recognised for its original and timely analysis of the evolving geography of media production and the often overlooked labour that underpins it. Drawing on interviews, policy analysis, and direct industry observation, the book offers a compelling account of the logistical coordination and below-the-line work that power Hollywood’s increasingly mobile production model.
The award committee praised the book’s conceptual depth, particularly its engagement with theories of supply chains and global capitalism, highlighting how it “challenges received wisdom about the nature of work in the entertainment industries.”
This prestigious international recognition reflects Professor Sanson’s leadership in media industry research and his global impact. Congratulations Kevin!
