Congratulations to DMRC Program Leader Professor Michael Dezuanni and Chief Investigator Dr T.J Thomson for their successful ARC Linkage grant led by Associate Professor Tanya Notley (University of Western Sydney). The linkage project team have secured $507,970 funding for their project – Addressing Misinformation with Media Literacy through Cultural Institutions. Congratulations to the entire team, Associate Professor Tanya Notley, Professor Michael Dezuanni, Professor Sora Park (University of Canberra), Dr T.J. Thomson, Associate Professor Heather Ford (University of Technology Sydney) and Mr Mathieu Ravier (National Film and Sound Archive of Australia).
This project partners with Australian public cultural institutions – National Film and Sound Archive, Museum of Australian Democracy, ABC Education, and the Australian Library and Information Association – to increase adult media literacy. Through an action-based, mixed methods approach, the project investigates adults’ experiences with online misinformation and assesses their ability to identify and challenge it. Research findings will inform the design and evaluation of targeted evidence-based media literacy training and resources that will be shared across broadcast media, physical spaces and online. Through these initiatives Australians will be better equipped to combat misinformation.
