On Wednesday the 7th February, 2018, the DMRC hosted ‘At Work with Digital Media’ at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Each year, we host a panel for our DMRC Summer School, which brings together higher degree and early career researchers from around the world. The event was moderated by the ABC’s Antony Funnell and recorded live for Radio National’s Future Tense program. Listen to the podcast.
Digital tools and platforms are now transforming the work environment, just as they have the personal/social environment. Increasingly, workplace practices and functions are being adapted to suit the new digital reality.
But in the race to take advantage of new technological possibilities, is a focus on rights and responsibilities being neglected? How do we enhance opportunities for flexibility in the workplace, without sacrificing hard-won conditions and securities?
The panel featured:
Associate Professor Sarah Kaine – University of Technology, Sydney
Dr Kevin Sanson – Senior lecturer, Creative Industries Faculty, QUT
Dr Melissa Gregg – Director of Smart Home research, Intel Corporation
Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz – PwC Chair in digital economy, QUT
